ENF – Caldor Fire Restoration Project

The overall purpose of the Caldor Fire Restoration Projects is to reduce risk to public health while restoring a healthy, resilient, and diverse ecosystem to lands impacted by the 2021 Caldor Fire and surrounding areas and managing ecosystem functions at a landscape-scale. Additionally, the Project purpose includes reestablishing recreational opportunities diminished by the 2021 Caldor Fire.

This project entails the following implementation measures:

Hazardous fuels reduction, fuel break development and maintenance, temporary road construction, road repair, and road decommissioning, and hazard tree abatement to reduce risk to public health and safety, as well as fire fighter and forest worker health and safety. (Treatment Focus: Public Health and Safety)
Hazardous fuels reduction, green tree thinning based on prescription and fuels reduction site preparation for planting, sawlog removal.
Road repair, hazardous fuels reduction, hazard tree abatement, aquatic wildlife habitat improvement, aquatic organism passage.
Recreation feature maintenance and recreation use management, road and trail repair/road decommissioning, hazard tree abatement, and hazardous fuels reduction will support restoration of recreation facilities and features impacted by the Caldor Fire. (Treatment Focus: Public Use)
Hauling cull logs off the forest is not mandatory, but optional. If contractor wishes to pursue hauling cull logs, a separate purchasing agreement will be made between GBI and contractor. Removed cull logs will be delivered to; and scaled at agreed upon locations.
